The Cohort Comparison Tool allows you to compare unmatched cohorts within, and between, schools. This tool tracks progress of students as they move from 3rd to 8th grade. These scores are calculated by combining all tested subjects on the Connecticut Mastery Test (CMT) at/above Proficient. The advantage of this tool is that it allows you to view how a particular group of students performs over time, rather than looking at the whole school's performance. However, this tool uses unmatched data, and does not account for students leaving or joining the cohort between those years. The CMT and CAPT were last administered in 2013. These tests will be replaced by the Smarter Balanced Assessment in Spring 2015. The data on this website will be updated once it is available after these tests are administered.

How to use the tool

Select the schools that you would like to compare from the two drop down menus (underneath “Select a School” and “Select another School”). By default, all of the cohorts with available data will be displayed, and the Legend shows which colors correspond to each cohort. Cohorts are named by the year the 3rd grade took the CMT, i.e. the 2006 cohort was tested in Grade 3 in 2006, in Grade 4 in 2007, and so on. Magnet schools will also include cohorts of only Hartford residents (and excludes data from suburban students). These cohorts will be noted with “(HTF Res)”.
